In 2 years, Kyrgyzstan plans to achieve full self-sufficiency in wheat

By 2022, the Kyrgyz Republic plans to reach 100% supply of domestic demand with domestic wheat. This was stated by the minister of agriculture, food processing and reclamation Erkinbek Choduev, the agency reported Tazabek .

As the minister specified, the annual consumption of wheat in the republic is about 1 million tons.

“In 2019, Kyrgyzstan provided itself with 601 thousand tons of wheat, the remaining 350-400 tons were brought from other countries. In 2020, it is planned to provide more than 680 thousand tons of domestic wheat,” E. Choduyev said.

He also added that to date, a plan has been developed to reach the level of self-sufficiency in this culture until 2022. This plan envisages, in particular, providing farmers with high-quality seed to increase productivity, as well as expanding the sown area of wheat in the country
